The Guide - Details

This section is divided into two parts: an interactive guide based on responses to set questions, and a set of diagrams that provide an overview of the main regulatory requirements.

Note that the overview diagrams and interactive guide only provide introductory information. They should be read in conjunction with information presented elsewhere in the Regulatory Wayfinder. The information provided in the Regulatory Wayfinder is a guide only. Before submitting an application or if you require further information contact the relevant regulatory agencies.

Overview

To see how the regulation of new organisms, foods, human and animal medicines interact with each other, have a look at this diagram:

Overview diagrams for more specific regulatory paths are available to show:

Each of the diagrams can be printed out from your web browser.

Interactive Guide

The interactive guide provides information on what applications are required for specific biotechnology activity in New Zealand.

You will be asked a short series of questions, based on whether you are interested in the approvals required for novel foods, new medicines, new agricultural compounds, or new organisms. Approval processes for hazardous substances are not currently covered in the interactive guide, but some information on hazardous substances is available in the new organism section of the Regulatory Wayfinder.

After completing the questions you will be shown the application steps required in the process. These diagrams can be saved or printed. For more detailed information you should read the relevant sections of the Regulatory Wayfinder or contact the relevant regulatory agencies identified in the resulting diagram.
